Microsoft Office I had been using Office Starter 2010 for about a week, now suddenly when I try to open it I get a pop up message that it cannot be opened. How to repair and is my documents lost? The Q drive Click-to-run was not recovered, but that didn't seem to make a difference because the Starter was functioning fine in creating, editing, saving, and opening documents again. I would guess that when Win 7 support ends in 3+ years, things will go downhill quickly. I know that is not a license problem because it says that Office Starter does not expire. I get the click-to-run application mamager that asks me if I'm sure I want to uninstall Microsoft Office Click-to-Run and I click yes.
All of my programs are working fine, including Office Starter 2010. It looks like I'll have to take Xhi's advice and download another programme. I too have researched this exhaustively. Simply will not open Malwarebytes except in safe mode. Not the thing to do! Having so little technical knowledge, I have no suggestions - unless like me, someone has a paid for, earlier version of Windows Office they can install.

They both agreed the key, when purchased, was legitimate and was registered as office 2010 professional. I never saw this mythical screen telling me Office Starter 2010 isn't compatible and to remove Office Starter 2010 when I installed my Windows 10. If any vital file has been accidentally deleted; or the program could not be repaired by the above mentioned steps, you may have to try to restore the system settings back to 'factory defaults'. Anyone know where I can find it? We will show you how to work around the issue. Considering how many times I have run into this.

I too get this message! It's my understanding that Office 2010 is no longer available as a download, so I'd never get back to Office Starter 2010 if I uninstalled Microsoft Office 2010. I went to the control panel and uninstalled word starter but I don't know what to do now. Look at the AppData key in the right pane of the registry window. The files required to setup Microsoft Office 2010 cannot be loaded. Try again or repair the product in Control Panel.
I had a few free minutes the other week and we were discussing PowerPoint. I just kept working at it. The problem is if you download and try to install any upgraded version you will lose everything. Microsoft told me the key was activated it's maximum number of times so I would have to buy a new office to use on windows 10, although it works fine and is registered to me on windows 7. The Starter is part of that, which is why it can no longer be installed from a link or the stored usb portable program, and why it is deteriorating randomly for some users. If you have decent Internet speed, you can be using a Microsoft Office program within minutes and have the whole program in less than a half hour. Many other people whose posts I've read have also had no problem. To clarify what this person seems to be asking: Microsoft Office Starter edition 2010 was a package that contained a very limited version of word and excel that Microsoft put out I presume when getting desperate around when Google Docs and solutions like libreoffice had just become known widespread but soon after you could only get the installers for this from obscure links. Wasn't sure if this should go under Microsoft Office? When it is done, go back to the Windows Start menu and programs and click on Microsoft Office 2010, then select Use in the first dialog and then Open on the second one. Personally windows 10 was not for me.
I have reverted back to windows 7, because even tho windows 10 is alright, i need some sort of typing things thats not internet based. I am still unable to do a system restore from a restore point. Apparently it is compatible with the first release, because it works just fine. There's recommendations for this good explanation and instruction at hp: , but there again, if it causes problems, I have no way to do a system restore. Back up Export and then rename the Registry Key if applicable.
That will re-install Office Starter. I just upgraded to Windows 10. Found with the exception of Outlook 2000 which threw an error on launching couldn't get it to start , all other major programs worked without issue.
