Other than that, this is the typical nail biting, high octane, anxiety inducing story I have come to expect. But I miss the sense of the unknown and ensuing excitement of the first two books. Kloos's writing seems to improve with each book. But these are recruits, not even fully trained soldiers yet, and only eleven weeks out of utter civiliandom. The fact that it was all done with practical effects in 1981 and still holds up speaks to the genius of Rick Baker, who won the very first Best Make-up Academy Award for his work on that movie. Frontlines is a pretty fantastic series. And, no one knows where they have gone. Then again, when he claims early in this book that he will never, ever become an officer nohow, noway, you can of course be assured that by the end of the book, he's going to become an officer. The universe Kloos has created begins to feel a bit dull. These book would make a fabulous movie series.
There was no satisfactory answer given about how they came to their decisions. If you have read the others, you should already be reading this, but if not, get into it, and if you haven't read the series, and like a good Military Sci-Fi story — then start reading! It seemed to drag on for longer than necessary, however I really enjoyed it. That is until Grayson is made an offer that he cannot, even though his instincts say so, refuse.
